The future is here.
New technology from Nobel Biocare ('Nobel Guide')
enables the transformation of a patients X-rays into a
3-Dimensional digitised model. This allows the
surgeon to pre-plan the operation and place the
implants safely and accurately in a single session
using a computer generated guided surgical stent. In
certain cases, the same digitised model can be used
to fabricate the actual teeth to be fitted at the same
time as the implant surgery.
The major advantage of the guided surgical technique is the minimal amount of
manipulation of the soft tissue due to keyhole surgery. This significantly reduces the
healing time and discomfort that may be associated with traditional dental implant
surgical techniques.
This method is not suitable for all patients. It may be used in patients who have good
bone or those who have had bone grafting. Patients with a terminal dentition who still
have their teeth are often not suitable, nevertheless other advanced options may be
considered. |
